One common question people may ask themselves in life at some point is, what is the purpose of life? What is the point of life? Why am I here?
Well, we didn't create ourselves. No one created themselves. So the purpose of our life has to originate with the Creator, which is God.
Why did God create us? Why did He make us? What is the purpose He made us for?
And the bible answers this question.
Knowing your purpose in life is the most important in life is the most important thing you can know, because it tells you what you should focus on and why you're really here.
God put us on this earth to be saints and prepare ourselves for the eternal life that awaits saints. God wants all of His people to conform to the image and likeness of His Son Jesus Christ, who was spotless and blameless, and who is the Holy Lamb of God.
Our time here on earth is time to train to become a saint and be more like Christ.
God is a holy God who cannot tolerate sin. Therefore, we need to learn how to be righteous, so that we can be in God's presence when this life is over.
We will now go through some scripture.
Romans 8:28-30 " 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified."
Ephesians 1:4-5 " 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will "
2 Timothy 1:9-10 " 9He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not because of our own works, but by His own purpose and by the grace He granted us in Christ Jesus before time eternal. 10And now He has revealed this grace through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has abolished death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the gospel"
1 Peter 1:3-9 "3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you, 5who through faith are protected by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
6In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in various trials, 7so that the authenticity of your faith—more precious than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
8Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and rejoice with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9now that you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls."
God did not put us on this earth for our careers- to become a doctor or a lawyer. Or to save up a certain amount of money. Or to have a certain amount of money in our retirement account by a certain age. Those are all worldly purposes. God really put us on this earth to prepare to be saints. God puts us here to be Christians. That way, after this life, we're ready to live with Him for eternity.
God wants to present us blameless on the Day of Jesus Christ, which is the day the Lord Jesus will return to earth and end the world.
1 Corinthians 1:8 "He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ."
So the point of life is get ourselves holy, so that one day we can be live with God eternally in heaven. God is a pure God. He cannot tolerate sin.
Psalm 5:4 " For You are not a God who delights in wickedness; no evil can dwell with You."
And we know that nothing impure can ever enter heaven.
Revelation 21:27 " Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life."
So we know that God is a holy God. He hates sin. He cannot tolerate evil. Therefore, in this life, we must train to be righteous so that we can enter that holy place, which is heaven.
The following scripture shows us the training we must do through the Word of God.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 "16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work. "
So you see the training that God wants His people to undertake so that they will be ready for eternal life.
And this is the point of life. We're only on this earth for a little while, a few short years. We should not be obsessed with worldly goals, such as our careers, becoming a doctor, becoming a nurse, becoming a lawyer, a professional athlete, etc. It's fine doing those things as long as they don't hinder us in our relationship with God. But it's not the reason we're on this earth. God should be first and we should realize our purpose in life is to conform to the likeness of Christ, to become righteous, to become holy, and pure. That way, we can enter a place that nothing impure can ever enter.
This is very important to know it establishes your purpose on this earth. This is your purpose: to become righteous, holy, pure, and blameless. Don't focus your life on your career or your human relationships such as marriage. Don't focus on your business or money. That's not the reason you're on this earth. Focus on God. Those are not your chief purpose for being on this earth. Neither is accumulating cars and houses.
