Cooking is the New Smoking

Cooking is the new smoking

We all know that smoking is bad. Smoking represents the eptiome of bad, it is linked to all types of cancers and diseases.

New studies have come out calling other practices that people do as health-destroying as smoking.

If you follow health articles, you may have heard that sitting is the new smoking, because it causes all types of harm to our bodies.

Well, cooking is also the new smoking.

Cooking food is bad. It's really bad.

It's so bad that there is no other animal species in the world that does it.

Human beings are the only creatures in the universe that cooks its foods.

Now why is cooking food bad?

It seems like people have been cooking food for ages, and it's true, but that doesn't make the practice healthy.

Here is a list of reasons why every time you turn on the stove, or press down your toaster, or open your microwave or oven, you may want to rethink this action.

1) Cooking Drives the Water Out of Food- Probably the first reason cooking is so bad is because it drives out the water in food. Water is one of the most crucial substances in the human body. Water is absolutely vital for us to stay alive. Our body is made up of approximately 60% water. This shows how much we need to constantly replenish the water in our bodies. When you cook food, evaporation occurs. The liquid water in the food gets driven out of it and gets changed to a gaseous state. This is not good because water is needed for our bodies to digest food properly and efficiently. When we drive the water out of a food, it makes the food more difficult to digest. In order to digest the food then, the body pulls existing water from its reserves to digest the bood. Thus, eating cooked food causes dehydration. This is why most people who eat cooked meals often have a glass of water or juice with the meal. After eating the (dehydrated) cooked food, they are often very thirsty and must have a drink with their meal. With uncooked water-rich foods such as melons, thirst is not induced.

2) Cooking Destroys the Food- It's not a secret. Fire destroys. If a fire starts in a house and isn't doused, the fire will be destroyed. If food is put to fire and the fire isn't eventually turned off, it will be reduced to ashes. However, damage occurs to the food long before ashes occur. But this just makes the point that fire, or cooking, destroys food. There are 3 major nutrients in food: carbohydrates, proteins, and fat. Cooking destroys all 3 of these major nutrients.

3) Cooking Food is Linked to Cancer- New studies are always being produced on the newfound dangers of cooking. It is accepted and known in mainstream medical literature that cooking food produces carcinogens. The higher the temperature of cooking, the greater likelihood that carcinogens are produced. Acrylamide is a substance that is known to increase the rate of cancer in laboratory mice that have been fed it. According to the American Cancer Society, "Acrylamide doesn’t appear to be in raw foods themselves. It’s formed when certain starchy foods are cooked at high temperatures (above about 250° F). Cooking at high temperatures causes a chemical reaction between certain sugars and an amino acid (asparagine) in the food, which forms acrylamide. Cooking methods such as frying, baking, broiling, or roasting are more likely to create acrylamide, while boiling, steaming, and microwaving appear less likely to do so. Longer cooking times and cooking at higher temperatures can increase the amount of acrylamide in foods further." Remember that acrylamide exposure increases the risk of several types of cancer in mice. Cooking food at high temperatures creates acrylamide. Therefore, cooking is linked to higher risk of cancer than raw foods.

4) Cooking allows us to eat foods nature didn't intend for us to eat- This is a big one, too. Many people have marveled at cooking, calling fire one of man's greatest inventions. Cooking allows us to eat all types of foods that could never be eaten uncooked. Common foods that are eaten cooked that are almost never eaten raw include potatoes, yams, rice, legumes...the list goes on and on. But is this a good thing? Do these foods that are only eaten cooked benefit us? Or is nature telling us these foods that can't be eaten raw aren't food meant for us? The answer to this is we look at science. Many foods that must be cooked by us all have substances in them that are either toxic to human beings or indigestible by human beings. Let's go through a few examples. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower are very high in cellulose, which is indigestible to the human body. They contain the insoluble type of fiber, which is harsh on the human body and can cause various illnesses such as ulcerative colitis. Legumes are rich in phytic acid, which is classified in human nutrition as an antinutrient. An antinutrient is a substance that goes into the human body that impairs the body's ability to absorb and utilize certain and minerals. Phytic acid impairs the absorption of iron, zinc and calcium, and may promote mineral deficiencies. Thus, you can see that legumes aren't among our natural foods. It contains substances that blocks our ability to uptake nutrients. Grains are another foods that cannot be eaten raw. With the whole gluten-free movement occurring now, if you have looked into it, gluten is linked to all types of health problems in humans such as constipation, bloating, diarrhea, vomiting, and joint pain. Studying the nutrition of these foods that must be cooked in order to be eaten by people shows that they simply aren't, at a nutritional level, not meant for us. They contain either indigestible or just plain toxic components. So cooking allows us to eat foods that aren't designed to eat.

With all the scientific processes and evidences that occur in the cooking process, it's definitive. Human beings have gotten cooking wrong. It is not healthful; it destroys your health. Cooking should only be done during times of famine and food shortages of raw food, not when a society has sufficient access to raw foods.

What do smoking, cooking food, snorting cocaine, taking prescription drugs all have in common? They all destroy your health.

For this reason, cooking can be deemed as the new smoking.
